CAMO.A.050 requires the organisation to conduct airworthiness reviews of managed aircraft to ensure that the aircraft, its continuing airworthiness records, and maintenance programme are all in order before an airworthiness review certificate can be issued or extended.

What it means in practice

The airworthiness review is a comprehensive assessment that combines a document review with a physical survey of the aircraft. The document review verifies that all required maintenance has been carried out in accordance with the approved maintenance programme, all airworthiness directives have been implemented, all known defects have been rectified or properly deferred, and the aircraft records are complete and accurate.

The physical survey verifies that the aircraft conforms to the approved type design and is in a condition for safe operation. It includes checking for obvious defects, unapproved modifications, and discrepancies between the aircraft configuration and its records. Upon satisfactory completion, the organisation issues an airworthiness review certificate with a validity of one year.

Key requirements

The airworthiness review must be conducted by authorised airworthiness review staff who meet the requirements of CAMO.A.035. Both the document review and physical survey must be completed before an ARC can be issued. The ARC can be extended twice for periods of one year each, provided certain conditions are met and no level 1 or level 2 findings are outstanding.

Common compliance gaps

Incomplete document reviews are a common gap, particularly when records are spread across multiple systems or locations. Organisations sometimes issue ARCs without verifying that all airworthiness directives applicable to the aircraft have been complied with, or without confirming that the maintenance programme reflects the latest revision.
