CAMO.A.305 defines the requirements for issuing, extending, and managing the airworthiness review certificate (ARC), which is the formal document confirming that an aircraft has satisfactorily completed its airworthiness review.

What it means in practice

The airworthiness review certificate is issued using EASA Form 15a/15b/15c upon satisfactory completion of the airworthiness review. The ARC has a validity of one year and can be extended twice, each time for a further year, provided that a satisfactory review is conducted by authorised airworthiness review staff within the defined window before expiry. The ARC cannot be issued or extended if there are outstanding level 1 or non-closed level 2 findings related to the aircraft's airworthiness.

When extending an ARC, the airworthiness review staff must conduct a review that is sufficient to confirm the aircraft remains airworthy, though it may be less comprehensive than the full review required for an initial issuance. The extension must be recorded on the original ARC document. If the ARC expires without being extended or renewed, a full airworthiness review must be carried out before a new ARC can be issued.

Key requirements

The ARC must be issued by authorised airworthiness review staff after a satisfactory airworthiness review. It is valid for one year from the date of the review. Extensions are permitted twice, provided the review criteria are met. The organisation must maintain records of all ARCs issued and any extensions granted, including the supporting review documentation.

Common compliance gaps

A common compliance gap is allowing the ARC to expire before initiating the renewal process, requiring a full review instead of a simpler extension and potentially grounding the aircraft. Another frequent finding is inadequate documentation of the review that supports an ARC extension, making it difficult to demonstrate that a satisfactory assessment was conducted before the extension was granted.
