CAMO.A.040 specifies the core continuing airworthiness management tasks the organisation must perform, including managing the maintenance programme, coordinating maintenance, and ensuring all airworthiness directives are complied with.
What it means in practice
This requirement forms the operational core of the Part-CAMO organisation. It requires the organisation to develop and control the maintenance programme for each managed aircraft, ensure that all maintenance is carried out in accordance with the approved programme by an appropriately approved maintenance organisation, coordinate scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, manage the implementation of airworthiness directives and other mandatory requirements, and ensure that any defects discovered during maintenance are corrected.
The organisation must also ensure that the aircraft is taken to an appropriately approved maintenance organisation when maintenance is due, that all maintenance is ordered and performed using current and approved data, and that the aircraft technical log system is properly maintained and up to date.
Key requirements
The organisation must ensure compliance with all applicable airworthiness directives within the required timeframes, manage modifications and repairs in accordance with approved data, implement the approved maintenance programme, and maintain the aircraft weight and balance records. All these tasks must be traceable through documented records.
Common compliance gaps
Late implementation of airworthiness directives is one of the most critical compliance gaps found during audits. Other common issues include failure to track repetitive maintenance tasks accurately, incomplete coordination with contracted maintenance organisations, and inadequate monitoring of deferred defects that approach their rectification deadlines.
