CAMO.A.055 requires the organisation to maintain a record-keeping system that stores all continuing airworthiness management records in a manner that ensures they are accessible, traceable, and protected from damage or unauthorised alteration.

What it means in practice

The organisation must retain all records related to the continuing airworthiness management of each aircraft it manages. This includes the maintenance programme, records of all maintenance carried out, compliance records for airworthiness directives and service bulletins, airworthiness review records, and records of any modifications or repairs. These records must be stored in a way that protects them from damage, alteration, and theft.

For digital record-keeping systems, the organisation must ensure adequate backup procedures are in place and that the system provides a reliable audit trail. Records must be retained for specified periods: typically at least three years after the aircraft or component is permanently withdrawn from service, or as otherwise required by the competent authority.

Key requirements

All continuing airworthiness records must be stored safely and be accessible to authorised personnel. The record-keeping system must ensure traceability of all maintenance actions and continuing airworthiness management activities. When an aircraft is transferred to another CAMO, all relevant records must be transferred with it within a reasonable timeframe.

Common compliance gaps

Fragmented record-keeping is a widespread compliance issue, particularly when records are split between paper-based and electronic systems without a clear indexing method. Another frequent finding is inadequate backup procedures for electronic records, leaving the organisation vulnerable to data loss.
